Hogmanay.

Hogmanay.
Also known as New Year's Eve for those living outside of Scotland.
But for those living it Scotland it's a bit more. Different. As it is considered as a formal event Scottish man wear formal outfits. Which happens to be a skirt. They call it kilt and it can be personalised both in colors and design based on the location and the family of the wearer.
Anyways.
By now I am -kind of- used to seeing Scottish people in way less clothing that the weather would require. Every day the temperature rises above 10 °C / 50 °F you can easily identify the locals in Aberdeen as they are the people wearing shorts with a light jacket or running around in t-shirts doing erands.
All others, wearing proper winter coats with winter boots and several layers of clothing are foreigners.

But still. I still get surprised when I get on the bus heading to town on the last day of the year and I see ladies wearing night gowns and the man in their company are showing off their kilts under their coats.

When I got to downtown I was even more surprised. It was about 3 °C/ 37 °F and super windy (as it's been lately. I'm very sad about it) and despite the weather most people were walking the streets without a coat. Ladies in their beutiful new years gowns (often sleeveless) and men in their kilts but no coats on anyone. Strange. Even for Scotland.

Happy New Year Everyone!

XOXO,
Teo
